Heather Vandiver, B.A.

Heather Vandiver is the Director of AFTA@FBCS.
Heather comes to the Academy for the Arts with over 25 years of music experience. She was raised in Norris City, Il and discovered her God-given passion for music at an early age. She began teaching piano and voice in high school and toured the United States and overseas with several choirs.
She attended Union University in Jackson, TN where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis on piano performance and voice. After graduation she married her sweetheart, Eric Vandiver and relocated to the Shreveport area in 2000. Since then she has served on a part-time basis as Children’s Choir Director at First Baptist, Waskom, TX and First Baptist, Keithville, LA. She is currently on staff at First Baptist Shreveport as Music Associate. Not only does she serve as the assistant to the Minister of Music, Glen Adkins, she also directs the children’s choir, youth choir, children’s hand bells, young adult ensemble and accompanies the Middle School Choir of First Baptist Church School.
Heather believes that music is fluid and can transcend all barriers whether language, race, ethnic or geographical. She brings high energy, organization and passion to the position of Academy Director. She believes, “We should teach others in all wisdom, singing psalm, hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in our heart to God, letting the Word of Christ dwell richly in us” Colossians 3:16.
